2001 Featured Artist: Pat Carothers

Basketmaker Pat Carothers of Columbus, Indiana, has been named the featured artist in the 2001 Chautauqua of the Arts. Carothers is an accomplished watercolor and oil artist, but now focuses her time and talent on the art of basketmaking.

She works from her home, Quiet Meadow Farm, located between Columbus and Nashville, Indiana. All of Carothers' baskets are hand woven and hand dyed. Her creations are based on classic patterns, such as those from Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, as well as more contemporary designs.

She has several original designs in her collection. Baskets created by Carothers have been widely exhibited in Indiana and the Midwest. Her work has earned her a number of awards at festivals and art shows. Carothers creations can be found in private collections throughout the United States, South America, and Europe.
